A Place to Gather

In Japan, the izakaya is a tavern for the neighborhood. We're bringing that same spirit to Upper King Street at Shokudô with a blend of traditional culinary techniques and a laid-back atmosphere.

Helmed by Chef Partner Masatomo "Masa" Hamaya, our menu is designed for sharing, featuring robata-grilled bites, warm bowls of ramen, crisp tempura, and shareable plates. Each dish is a testament to the seasons, crafted with local produce and honoring centuries-long tradition.

Explore Our Menu

At the center of Shokudô is the robata - a traditional charcoal grill that serves as the anchor for our menu. Literally meaning "fireside cooking," robata is a centuries-old method of grilling over high heat without flames. The result is a distinct, subtle char that highlights the natural taste of the ingredient. From meat and seafood to seasonal vegetables, the robata imparts a unique flavor and crisp finish that can only be achieved over charcoal

Each dish on our menu - from ramen and dumplings to tempura and hand-rolls - is prepared with intention and grounded in Japanese technique. Some plates honor tradition. Others take a freer path. All are guided by the same philosophy: simplicity, seasonality, and flavor revealed through fire.
